Milacron Hosts Successful Introduce A Girl to Engineering Event
CINCINNATI, OH – February 20, 2020 – Milacron hosted several students and educators from Clermont Northeast High School (CNE) as part of an effort to highlight modern manufacturing—a dynamic and growing industry that offers diverse, high-paying career opportunities. This day gives young female students a unique opportunity to explore engineering careers. Participants were able to enjoy motivational presentations by Milacron leadership and fellow female engineers, tour Milacron manufacturing facilities, engage in hands-on experiments related to the plastics manufacturing industry and compete in team challenges.
“Today’s event, and the larger Girl Day initiative, allows companies like Milacron to demonstrate the critical impact engineering has for a manufacturing company and our commitment to diversity. Milacron organized this event to highlight women and minorities in the STEM field and provide information for girls considering these professions,” stated Mac Jones, Milacron Injection Molding and Extrusion President. “We are proud to highlight Milacron’s innovation in the plastics industry and hope our event today inspires the next generation of women to pursue a career in engineering.”
This event was established by DiscoverE to educate high school students with an enthusiasm for engineering or a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subject about exciting career opportunities in a typically male-dominated field. Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) is held in conjunction with National Engineering Week in February to boost interest in engineering among girls.
United Way of Greater Cincinnati volunteers assisted the program. Milacron and United Way partnered for this event to encourage students to branch out in finding local opportunities to engage in their future career development and college preparations.
“United Way of Greater Cincinnati supports hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering and math to prepare our youth for in demand jobs of the future,” said Alan Branch, Manager of Corporate Relations, United Way of Greater Cincinnati. “Thank you, Milacron for providing such a unique opportunity to help this group of young female students in our region imagine a successful career in Engineering.”
Girl Day, a nationwide initiative founded by DiscoverE, consists of network events around the country that offers companies and educators the opportunity to address the gender gaps students face, connect with future generations, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the engineering industry.
