Range of Sizes & Materials
Genca can manufacture or rebuild screws up to 24 inches in diameter by 30 feet long and barrels up to 12 inches ID. Genca’s standard base material for screws is AISI 4140 heat treated and stress relieved to 28-32 RC. OD of flights are either flame or hardened or hard faced with:
- Stellite ® # 12
- Colmonoy® # 56
- Tungsten Carbide
- Stellite® # 6
- Colmonoy® # 83
- Colmonoy® # 88
Additional hard facing can be provided as specified. Other common base materials are Hastelloy®, Stainless Steel, and AISI D2, Inconel, PM A11, 17-4 PH, PM A11LC, Haynes-242..
Our Hard Facing Process
The enemy of screw and barrel efficiency is wear. Screw wear is a result of the flow of plastic against the screw and barrel as well as metal contact between the flights and barrel. To hel resist wear, Genca makes screws more wear resistant through hard facing. There are numberous hard facing materials and techniques available these days. All techniques can be grouped into the following major categories:
- Welding of Hard Facing Alloys by MIG/PTA/TIG/OXY Processes
- Thermal Spraying of Hard Facing Alloys
- Surface Treatment of Base Materials
- Plating of Surfaces
Genca has the capability to apply hard facing with any of these techniques, and our engineers will work with you to determine which method is best for your needs.
A normal part of the hard facing process produces hairline cracks on the flights. All the good hard face alloys are compounded to give the lease amount of surface cracks, but these cracks cannot be 100% eliminated. And the harder the alloy, the more cracks one will find. However, a smooth, no crack surface means a poor wear surface from too much dilution of the base material with the hard surface alloy.
Along with an extensive line of feed screws, Genca also offers a selection of Check Values, End Caps, Adapters and Nozzles. Our custom injection molding check valves feature a non-return ring with a reusable retainer and replaceable front seat, check ring and rear seat wear components. They are manufactured from high abrasion resistant materials such as H-13, DE-2, PM A11LC & PM A11.
